The practice of theory in accordance with the Jaques-Dalcroze method involves a particular focus on mastery of vocal improvisation, rhythm and body dissociation and group singing.
The teaching of theory explores the conscious practice of music with awareness, with the aim of being able to understand, read and write rhythms, melodies and harmonies in all their tonalities, modes and varieties (metrical and rhythmic).
The practice of theory in accordance with the Jaques-Dalcroze method involves a particular focus on mastery of vocal improvisation, rhythm and body dissociation and group singing.
Throughout this apprenticeship, music from many different cultures and styles will be explored. This course invites the student to craft connections between the different subjects taught; the things learned in the rhythm class are expanded upon in the theory class. Equally, the development of listening lays the groundwork for the instrumental improvisation class.
A fundamental subject at the heart of the practice of music, the theory taught using the Jaques-Dalcroze method develops musical awareness through sensation and mental representation, strengthens the inner ear and develops the faculty to communicate expressively with voice and body.
